Yes, I want to be 24 till I die. 18 worked alright for Mr. Adams, but I'd prefer to be a good 6 years older. He had his reasons, I have mine.
When I was 18, I was in the second year of my college. Even though my parents have always been of the 'unstinting' and ‘he’s the youngest, let him spend as he wishes’ kind, I was still cash-strapped on most occasions. Now money is not the most important thing in life. I know that. People say it's Love. And I agree. The unfortunate thing was that I was in love with money...too many things to buy, too little money at hand. Now, that I am 24. And working. Well, yeah you infidels ! I am ;) And doing decently well at that. Staying in one of the costliest cities of the world, the money is still not enough for all the things that one could want, but its way better than what it was when I was 18. Whole another thing that I don’t desire a lot of things now. At least not the ones that money can buy. Refer 'Dad, I’m a Socialist'. So, there we go.
TwentyFour 1 – Eighteen 0.
Having broached the topic of ‘love’ in the very beginning let me take it a little further. Love of the lucre has been right up there on my list. Not far behind is, yes you’ve guessed it right, Girls. And mostly girls older than me ;) I still remember the time when I went absolutely crazy for a girl, only to find out that I was 18 and she was 21. I also remember that damsel-in-distress who I wanted to be the rescuer of. Sadly I was 20, she was 23. If I had a dime (even a cent) for every time this has happened, I would easily beat Warren Buffet to be the richest man around. Sigh... So as I was saying, due to this age barrier I couldn't hit on these swans. Well now that I am 24, I don’t have that problem any more. 24 is the perfect age. Anyone more than 24, I don’t want to hit on them anyways. Anyone less than 24 is now fair game !!
My four elder sisters are going to come after me with large steak-knives if they read this, so if this is the last post you see from me for a long time to come, please be the good samaritan and inform my parents. They’d appreciate it.
TwentyFour 2 – Eighteen 0
Another thing that I love about life at 24 is the freedom that I have. This partly stems from the fact that I am staying alone now. Since I'm away from my family I can be my own master. Stay out till late in the night, sometimes till early morning. Have a few beers here, there..everywhere!! The party just doesn’t stop. Needless to say I couldn’t drink when I was 18. Plus staying with my parents didn’t help. I remember cutting short many an outings with friends after getting a call from Dad demanding that I come home immediately.
TwentyFour 3 – Eighteen 0
3-0
Now that’s a margin comfortable enough to win a soccer match. And if it's good enough for my deities then it's good enough for me !! I have a few more reasons but they'd all come out in good time. Till then, Keep it real!!
P.S. This post is dedicated to my sister whose birthday it is today. Happy Birthday Sistah ;)

Hi Vippen
I like your flow. There is a perfect harmony. Money, Love, Freedom.
We all love and want them all. Even Power, which perhaps could buy everything.
We all are crazy. Love just makes us more crazy and damn crazy. When we want, we don’t get and when we get we don’t accept.
Closer to 24 we all feel we are getting what we wanted and 42 many perhaps regret what they left behind way behind at 24.
At times we run fast not realising - music is not over. And when we stop and look back we realise what we wanted we never needed.
In life there are no accidents. Things just happen and when they happen it is never younger or older.
We all love freedom. Like Abraham Lincoln said: "As I would not be a slave, so I would not be a master.
Keep writing...Give my belated birthday wishes to your sister.
Ps. Will have one more debate about media, Barkha and NDTV..
Ajit,
Thanks for your comments and appreciation.
From the things that you've said, two things stand out for me.
"When we want we don’t get and when we get we don’t accept" and "When we stop and look back we realise what we wanted we never needed". It's like you have summed up the story of (at least my) life in these lines ;-)
And before I get berated by somone or get the label of an 'Ageist', let me say this as well.
I'm sure there are loads of people who are older than me (30+ or 40+) and have a life that is much more exhilarating, exciting and zestful than mine. In no way do I intend to say that life's better at 24. It's just that 24 is working out alright for me and hence the post :p
Thanks for the birthday wishes. I'm sure she'd appreciate them.
Rps: I'd look forward to it. Though I think it would be more of a discussion than a debate since we agree on most things pertaining the media, Barkha and NDTV ;)

Hakuna Matata!
24 is just the begining. During the course of our F1 tracks today, it is just the bend and not the end.
God bless you. Keep writing....
Just a bend and not the end !! Noice ;)
Thanks again !! I appreciate it.
Enjoy the new found freedom and being 24. Its fun being on your own though its challenging at times. But there's nothing that tastes sweeter than freedom.
I like your blog title.
Shas, thanks for your comments :)
You are spot with what you've said. Its not easy being on one's own. But then again everything comes at a price !!
Freedom for me is defined by the lines below,
"Free is all you gotta be,
Dream dreams that no one else can see.." I agree with Mr. Adams on this one ;)
As for the title of the blog, all credit goes to the iconic Bruce Springsteen who penned the lyrics for the song. One has to give credit where credit's due :) Not the kind that caused the financial meltdown :p
I liked the way you have written the post.
I was quite young when the song came out '18 till i die' and thought 18 would be the best year of my life if Bryan Adams had to sing about it.
18 came and went. I wouldnt say it was the best but that year was a wake up call for me.
Many years (OMG I make it sound like i'm old, which I'm not :) ) have passed since then and its been one hell of a roller coaster ride.
Sonia,
I'm glad that you liked the post. And I appreciate your comments.
Indeed life's like a roller coaster ride. And it's not getting any smoother anytime soon. Stay buckled up ;)
Nice thoughts.
Life's like that, when you aim for it; it's the mountain, when you are there; it looks small.
I think it's Md.Ali who said 'If you look at things the same way at 30 and 60 then you wasted 30 years' (something of that sort) I agree 100% Life is a constant enrichment of thoughts.
Also, another favorite of mine 'Experience is the comb you get, after you turn bald' :)) so enjoy life at 18-24-42-81. Life has no rewind button so wisely use the fast forward too.
Thanks Ganesh !!
There surely is no rewind button in life.
A slight digression but I wonder what our lives would be like if we had one. We could go back and undo all the bad decisions/choices we made. Whether we'd do it or not is a different question.
What are we without the decisions we make. Every decision that we make is not about what we want but about who we really are. People say that every decision (good or bad) you take teaches you something about life. But I'd say it teaches you something about yourself. You know yourself better, you know who you really are.. Just a passing thought :)
